Rest in power, Jamie.
I hated Doc Hoyer's class. Biology was not my strong point, and as a young vegetarian in the 1990s I was very against doing animal experiments, so he gave me book work instead. He barely passed me, and for a while I thought he only let me pass because he didn't want to have me in his class again.
A few years after he died, I realized he let me pass because he didn't want to hold me back. He knew biology wasn't my thing, and he knew I would go on to greater things if I wasn't redoing Biology all the time. He was right - science has never been my strength, but I did better in Chemistry and Physics than I did in Biology, and I went on to greater things.
Thank you, Doc Hoyer, for seeing that future in me and making sure I had room to grow.
